Judicial Service Commission Appoints Chief Judge to Civil Court and Chief Justice to High Court

In a press statement released today, Judicial Service Commission stated that they have appointed Judge Mariyam Waheed as Chief Judge of Civil Court and Justice Hussain Shaheed as Chief Justice of High Court.

Judge Mariyam Waheed was appointed as a Civil Court Judge on 13th April 2016. Prior to her appointment, she held the position of Magistrate at K.Gaafaru Magistrate Court and S.Hithadhoo Magistrate Court.

Judge Mariyam Waheed holds a Bachelor of Laws from Maldives College of Higher Education and a Masters of Shariah from Villa College.

The position of Chief Judge of Civil Court has been vacant since the untimely demise of former Chief Judge of Civil Court, Ahmed Nimal, on 20th September 2023. Since then, Judge Farhad Rasheed has been appointed as Acting Chief Judge of Civil Court.

Since the retirement of the former Chief Justice of High Court, Hathif Hilmy on 17th November 2022, Justice Hussain Shaheed has been fulfilling the role of Acting Chief Justice of High Court. Justice Hussain Shaheed was appointed as a High Court Justice on 24th July 2018. He also served as a judge at Criminal Court and as a Magistrate at S.Feydhoo Magistrate Court and N.Holhudhoo Magistrate Court.

Justice Hussain Shaheed holds a Bachelor of Shariah and Law and a Masters of Judicial Science and Sharia Policy from the Islamic University of the Maldives.
