Criminal Court Judge Hassan Saeed Suspended for 14 Days

Criminal Court Judge Hassan Saeed has been suspended for a period of 14 days by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The claim originates from an incident that occurred while he was the Chief Judge of Family Court.

According to JSC, Judge Hassan Saeed’s conduct enabled a marriage that was outside the rules of the court and the laws and regulations of the Maldives.

JSC stated that, while Judge Hassan Saeed had given directions to the Court’s Marriage Registrar on how to make arrangements for an out-of-court marriage, the legal authority to make decisions on marriage petitions is in the hands of the Court’s Marriage Registrar.

This wasn’t the first time JSC has taken action against Judge Hassan Saeed. Judge Hassan Saeed was also suspended in February 2016, and the JSC is presently investigating a case involving Judge Hassan Saeed.

Judge Hassan Saeed was transferred to Criminal Court from Family Court during October 2019
