A New Look for Supreme Court Justices

For the first time, the Chief Justice and Supreme Court Justices of the Maldives have been given distinctive gowns. Prior to this the Chief Justice used to dress in a black gown with gold ribbon linings, whereas the other Justices of the Supreme Court wore black gowns with silver ribbon linings.

The recently introduced gowns, which were unveiled on Tuesday, have been meticulously designed to capture the Maldives’ culture and heritage and to symbolize important judicial values.

The gold ribbon artwork on these gowns was inspired by the elaborate coral stone work on exhibit at the Friday Mosque in Male’ City, highlighting the Maldives rich history and Islamic tradition. The three star and scale serve as powerful symbols of justice, fairness, and the autonomy of the judiciary.

According to the Supreme Court, these distinctive gowns will be worn during court hearings and special occasions.
