High Court Justice Ahmed Shakeel Retires

In accordance with Sections 66(c) of the Judges Act and 2(c) of the Judges Retirement Rules, Justice Ahmed Shakeel of the High Court filed a request to resign from the bench for medical reasons. Based on the records that were provided in addition to the expert doctor’s documentation, the members of the Judicial Service Commission resolved to retire Justice Ahmed Shakeel from his position as a Justice of the High Court at their meeting yesterday.

Justice Ahmed Shakeel has served as a Judge for 20 years. He was first appointed as a judge on 23 March 2003. During the 20 years of his service, Justice Ahmed Shakeel served as AA. Ukulhas Magistrate, Juvenile Court Judge, Family Court Judge, Civil Court Judge and Criminal Court Judge.

Prior to his appointment to the High Court, Justice Shakeel was serving as the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court.

Justice Ahmed Shakeel holds a Bachelor of Shariah and Master of Shariah from Villa College

To this date four Judges have retired this year due to health reasons.
